Meet Leela

When asked about her tireless work ethic, Leela explained: “It’s an internal motivation to always try to do better and inspire those around me.”

I am one of three children born to my wonderful parents Rao and Dawn. From a young age, my exposure to different beliefs, cultures, and ideologies nurtured a deep appreciation for diversity. In 1979, our family relocated to Chestermere, where I spent my schooling years until graduation from Chestermere High School. My early work experiences included farm jobs, babysitting, volunteering at the local hall, and mowing lawns; this ingrained a strong work ethic in me.

I was always inclined towards music and languages, and as I grew older, I decided to delve deeper into these fields academically. Life took a beautiful turn when I married the love of my life, Malkeet Aheer. Post marriage, I pursued and obtained my Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Manitoba.

As I was nearing the completion of my degree, Malkeet and I were blessed with our first child, Akesh. It was then that we decided to move back to our roots in Chestermere, Alberta. This decision proved to be a significant one as we set up our home, welcomed our second child Sehran, and together embarked on entrepreneurial adventures, successfully managing several businesses.

What fuels my everyday life is the joy derived from engaging with and serving the community. My tireless work ethic and perpetual optimism drive me to approach each day with the aim of making a positive difference in the world. I've extended my altruistic endeavors to a broad spectrum of volunteering activities. Through continuous efforts in supporting various causes and organizations, I strive to enhance the quality of life for the people of Alberta. My deep understanding and acknowledgment of the unique challenges faced by Albertans are rooted in my firsthand experiences and my never-ending journey of learning and self-growth.
